Get in Shape with Special Olympics

The Foster City distance running team took the overall team gold, as well as many individual awards, at the Fall Sports Classic last quarter. Many of us volunteered at the event, coaching events such as floor hockey and bowling. But we were “bowled over” by the quality of the long-distance runners. Do you know that the Santa Clara team has a 5-something minute miler that gives Noah Jacobs a run for his money?
Now that winter has begun, the Special Olympians have traded in their running shoes for spikes. That’s right, it’s time for track and field. And if hurdles and shot put weren’t enough, some Special Olympians are even training for triathlons…Sheesh! My tired old body can’t keep up.
Special Olympics is in need of track and field coaches, swimming coaches and more (you don’t need to be an expert – just willing to work with some really cool folks and get in shape while you’re at it).
We get Challenge for Charity credit (not to mention buns of steel!) by coaching these folks, so sign up for Special Olympics volunteering. Either look for the sign up sheet on the T drive or contact our C4C extraordinaire, Sarah Elk, MBA2. She will hook you up!
