Asia Night kicked off with interactive presentations on India and Japan, given by Bharathi Ramavarjula, MBA2 and Atsushi Yoshida, MBA2.
Bharathi and Atsushi shared their countries’ histories, facts and figures, and pop-culture icons (Did you know that India is home to 2 of the last 8 Miss Universe winners? Or that Pokemon and Hello Kitty are two of Japan’s most popular exports?)
The evening continued with entertainment, as Mona Ahuja (BizPartner) brought everyone out of their seats and taught them a traditional Indian dance. Kathy Nicholson, MBA2, and Saeko Goto, MBA2, dug out their kimonos and shared their insights into this complicated and intricate symbolic dress.
Friends for Youth participants, mentors, and GSB volunteers had the chance to hang out and spend time together while sampling a variety of Asian cuisine. Special thanks to our donors, Gaylord India, Homma Sushi, Sushi House, and Zao Noodle Bar, for their generous and delicious donations!
Friends for Youth is a local non-profit organization matching adult mentors with at-risk children aged 8-18. Contact Joy Guidi, MBA2, for more information on how to get involved. Thanks to everyone who participated in Asia Night and made it such a success!
