Joy (joi) n. - A source or an object of pleasure or satisfaction
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Joy Guidi, MBA2, the newest recipient of the Presidents Award. It is rare through the course of ones life that you come across a person like Joy. She is a warm, caring friend who loves life and shares her excitement about it with everyone she comes in contact with.
Joy has touched many of our lives as a Brazil Study Trip Leader, a C4C organizer, a Friend for Youth and as a travel agent for over 100+ of us in Hawaii last Spring Break. On a purely academic level she has saved many of us. Freerider, allowed her to use her past experience as manager at E&Y leading classes (pictured below), through the nuances of international transfer pricing, except now she was doing it for us.
Kristin Canavan, MBA2, thinks that “Joy's contributions have enriched so many of our classmates' GSB experiences, and she does them selflessly, with a warm smile, and often without recognition. Last year, you couldn't help knowing she was someone special when her first emails to the class appeared, trying to rally people for a BareNaked Ladies concert last fall (apologies to Canadians who claim not to be fans of BNL) (editor’s note – Joy’s taste in music may suck but that doesn’t tarnish our impression of her). While she has taken on significant leadership roles in C4C and Friends for Youth, some of her wonderful contributions have also occurred when she's just had an idea for something fun and then welcomed her 350/700 GSB friends to join her: concerts, the Spring Break trip to Hawaii, the hotel arrangements for the most recent formal…
Dan Kalafatas, MBA2, also thinks, “There are many, many people who shape the culture and our experiences here at the GSB, but I think Joy's contributions merit particular recognition and celebration. In a nutshell, she seems to do anything and everything for the GSB community, all with complete selflessness; a big, warm smile; and has certainly been a wonderful addition to my experience here at the GSB.”
We could put in a hundred more personal statements about Joy but we decided to edit them into one since they all said the same thing – Joy you’re awesome and thank you for making the GSB a special place for all us.Â
Congratulations, Joy! Please let your classmates know when we can help you for a change.
Thank you to all of you who brought Joy to our attention. Your nominations are invaluable so please keep them coming.
