Game 7 saw the GSB continue their fight for the title with a battling 2-1 win against Dirty Peru.
With the GSB looking sluggish and hungover from the night before, the fight started even. The one bright spark was Andriy Shapowal, who brought the cheering crowd of 5 to their feet on 10 minutes. His dancing “feet of flame” scorched past defender 1, burned past defender 2, before flicking the ball past the keeper to make it GSB 1 Dirty 0.
With Erlind Dine and Joerg Sponer leading dangerous counter attacks, the GSB began to dominate. Soon it was 2-0 as Mark Budd curled an unstoppable free kick over the wall and into the top corner from at least 35 yards. Bryant Jenkins alleged the Dirty keeper must have been blinded by the sun.
After scoring a goal to get back into the match, Dirty Peru resorted to further low blows. Mehdi Malaki and Carlos Tramutola were lucky to escape with their legs intact after several bad tackles. A combination of a vicious Dirty Peru headbutt and Emmy winning skills from Mark Budd ensured Dirty had a man sent off on 60 minutes.
With the remainder of the game descending into a brawl, the determination of players such as Martin Efron and Darren Johnston led the GSB to a well-fought victory.
The victory enables GSB to leapfrog Peru into 3rd place, and puts them within touching distance of the leaders...
