Since the infamous Halloween House (183 Glenwood) was sold two years ago, the annual GSB Halloween Party has been searching for permanent locale to call home. This year it was held at the Mediterranean Room in the Crowne Plaza Cabana, Palo Alto. At only a 10 minute drive from campus and competitively positioned near the 24-hour Denny’s, the fact that an elegant hotel ballroom served as the Halloween House was lost on everyone.
From 9 to 1 AM a few hundred GSBers sweated the night away to pop tunes inside costumes that ranged from the simple and last minute (my own) to the extravagant, such as Frank Salisbury’s, MBA2, Angel. They also spanned the spectrum between hysterical—Alex Alviar’s, MBA1, One-Night Stand—and head-shaking—Dan Harfe’s, MBA2, Fallopian Swim Team.
This year, group themes were especially prevalent, and included Top Gun, Women’s Basketball Team, Alice in Wonderland, Chelsea Clinton’s Security Detail, and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders among many others.
Nonetheless, a select few costumes stood above all the rest, garnering awards from the Social Committee.
Best first year costume: Matty Yohannon, MBA1, as the Matrix Guy.
Best second year costume: Ben Foss, MBA2, as Animal from the Muppets.
Best couple: Brian Owens, MBA2, and wife Josie as the pair from American Gothic.
Sexiest Costume: The lovely lady dressed as Lara Croft. Who was this, Angelina Jolie?
Sexiest Group: MBA1s Masha Korsunsky, Wendy Hromadka, Lisa Richards, Sally Wolf, Ji Jeon, Karin Aviram, and Amy Skeeters-Behrens as The Sexy Cop Girls.
Best Group: MBA2s Steve Boord, George Case, Andy Choy, and Matt Mooney, and Kyle Chenet as Sting.
Best Group (Runners Up): MBA1s Will Kuntz, Omar Gonzalez, Scott Earthy, Mike Derezin, and Andrew Hungerford as *N SYNC.
Halloween House or not, everyone had a ghoulishly good time—pun intended.
